Cape Town – A bus driver and two Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested for assaulting a truck driver who attempted to assist police in pursuing an overloaded bus with unruly passengers.
The incident occurred on the Ben Schoeman Highway, where officers from the Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) observed the overloaded bus travelling in the direction of Centurion.
When stopped, the bus driver presented fake documents, and upon police pursuit, passengers instructed the driver to flee.
“The TMPD members called for backup from the overload control unit, regional members from Centurion, the tactical response team and crime prevention unit.
@TMPDSafety says it will not condone any unruly behavior and will arrest anyone who breaks the law.

“While they were in pursuit a truck driver who saw what was happening tried to block the bus and the vehicle stopped. Zimbabwean nationals exited the bus and allegedly assaulted the truck driver,” TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba
The bus driver eventually collided with a police vehicle, leading to arrests for assault, reckless and negligent driving, illegal immigration, damage to property, and obstruction of justice.
The impounded bus had exceeded passenger capacity, prompting the police intervention.
