Cape Town – Police in the Western Cape have reported progress in their investigations into taxi-related violence in the province.
The Taxi Task Unit’s combat team has recently made a series of arrests.
One of the arrested individuals was wanted in connection with a triple murder that occurred in Khayelitsha in December 2022 and is also linked to other crimes, including a June murder in Masiphumelele.
“The suspect is allegedly linked to a triple murder that occurred in Khayelitsha in December 2022. He is also charged for another murder that occurred in Masiphumelele in June 2023 as well as a house robbery in the same area of Ocean View. He is expected to appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates Court on Monday, 28 August 2023 on the charges specified,” said olice spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

Another suspect, wanted for several taxi-related murders in Ceres, Wolseley, and Citrusdal, was killed in a shootout with the police.
“The deceased suspect was sought in connection with a string of murders in Ceres, Wolseley and Citrusdal. In one incident, the deceased was alleged to have shot and killed a father and his 10 year old son in Wolseley in August 2023,” Potelwa said.
In Kwazulu-Natal, an alleged hitman was apprehended and will face murder charges in the Western Cape.
“All arrested suspects are between the ages of 30 and 40 years.
“More arrests are on the cards as the team of detectives responsible for taxi violence related investigations crack the whip,” said Potelwa
