Cape Town – The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has denied rumours of an impending strike and labelled them as “fake news”.
In an announcement on Monday, Santaco’s general secretary, Elryno Saaiers, said that the organisation has no plans for a strike and discredited the circulating reports as false information.
“As Santaco we want to categorically state that there is no strike planned by the industry. What is being circulated around is fake news,” Saaiers said.

Despite these claims, Santaco officials were engaged in an urgent meeting following the impoundment of 14 taxis over the weekend, News24 reported.
The City of Cape Town had seized these taxis, citing violations of the National Land Transport Act, the report said.
This follows an earlier eight-day strike by Santaco this month in response to vehicle impoundments by the City for various infractions, as cited by taxi operators.
