Cape Town – A man was reportedly beaten to death and set alight by the community in Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal after he allegedly set alight the home of his girlfriend, with her seven-year-old son inside.
According to The Witness, the man had an argument with his girlfriend in the afternoon on Christmas Day.
He then went out of the house soon after the altercation but returned later and set the house on fire, with the child inside.

“The woman opted to spend the night at a neighbor’s house while her seven-year-old son attended a Christmas function with her sister. Residents said the woman was unaware that the child returned and was in the house alone when her boyfriend returned later and set it on fire. He then fled the scene,” said the report.
Angry community members managed to locate him and allegedly set him alight, Times Live reported.
“He sustained burn wounds on the body and was confirmed dead at the scene,” the report quoted KZN Saps spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele as saying.
Mbele said that “two cases of murder and arson were opened at Verulam for further investigation”.
