Cape Town – ANC MP Sibusiso Kula, who is accused of the brutal killing of his wife Jennifer Mohlomi-Kula, was reportedly released on R50 000 bail by the High Court in North West on Tuesday.
Jennifer was found in a pool of blood, stabbed to death at their marital home in Kanana, North West on 27 November last year.
Kula was arrested in January this year in connection with the murder.
In February, the Orkney Magistrate’s Court denied Kula bail much to the relief of the deceased’s family which alleged Kula had threatened to kill his children.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in North West, Henry Mamothame said Kula’s appeal succeeded before Judge Andre Petersen in the superior court, reported IOL.

“Judge Andre Petersen ordered him to surrender his passports, report twice a day at the nearest police station, provide the investigating officer with his work itinerary, and report to the investigating officer if he must move outside his residential jurisdiction and have no direct or indirect contact with his children,” the report quoted Mamothame as saying.
News24 reported that state advocate Benny Kalakgosi had “argued strongly” to persuade the court not to grant Kula bail.
“The judgment favoured the accused, and the State noted and respected the decision. The State will focus on the completion of the investigations in preparation for trial,” the report quoted Mamothame as saying.
