Cape Town – The Wynberg Regional Court handed a hefty sentence to gang member Sherman Lee Arendse on Friday, February 24, for the murder of the son of a Hanover Park community activist.
The 30-year-old Americans Gang member shot and killed Toufieg Samuels in cold blood in February 2017.
According to police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala, the deceased’s mother was a Community Policing Forum (CPF) member in Hanover Park at the time of the incident.

Arendse was arrested and remanded in custody during trial after the Athlone Magistrate’s court denied his bail application.
“He was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Gwala said.
SAPS management in the Western Cape has lauded the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Thembelani Mekuto for his strong work ethic which contribute to the successful conviction of the accused.
