Cape Town — The trial of alleged sex worker serial killer, Sifiso Mkhwanazi, appeared in court today but is now expected to wait another day to hear the outcome after his trial was pushed to Friday after he confessed to feeling ill.
The “trial with in a trial” was ordered by the Johannesburg High Court Judge Cassem Moosa to determine whether Mkhwanazi was coerced into confessing his killings to his father. Mkhwanazi took the stand and revealed in court that the investigating officer told him to confess to his father, Mike Khumalo, about the crime, The Citizen said.
“Yes he told me to confess about the case, then we continued walking and as we reached the room my father was standing there. The police officer then said ‘okay, go talk to your father’,” Mkhwanazi testified.
Rape and murder accused Sifiso Mkhwanazi testified that he was coerced and influenced by an investigating officer and his father to confess to the rape and murder of six sex workers. Their bodies were discovered at his father’s panel beating warehouse in Johannesburg.#SABCNews

Mkhwanazi currently faces six charges of murder for allegedly murdering six Zimbabwean sex workers in Johannesburg in 2022. He has seven counts of rape against him, among many others. State advocate, Leswikane Mashabela, revealed Mkhawnazi was feeling ill and will return on Friday, EWN reported.
“I received a call this morning, at around 8 o’clock, from the accused’s counsel informing he was not feeling well and will not be coming to court. I, unfortunately, did not ask him as to the nature of the illness but he promised me that he will be back tomorrow to proceed with the matter. It is my submission that the matter be rolled over to tomorrow,” State Advocate Leswikane Mashabela, said.
When he appears in court on Friday again, it will be determined whether his confession is admissable, and should that be the case, it will be used against him in his murder trial.
