Cape Town – Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has urged the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to clarify allegations that matric results are being sold online for R100 ahead of their official release.
Reports on social media claim that matric exam results are being sold online for R100.
This comes ahead of the official release of the results scheduled for Monday, 13 January, 2025.
NSC matric results are being sold on a website for R100. Students are able to get the full results with percentages.

According to SABC News, Makaneta expressed concern about the potential breach of data security and violation of learners’ privacy, warning that such actions undermine confidence in the education system.
He called for an internal investigation and suggested involving the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to ensure accountability.

“The situation is a cause for great concern. If true, this suggests a potential breach of data security and a violation of learners’ rights to privacy. The sale of results, whether legitimate or not, undermines public confidence in the education system and casts doubt on the DBE’s ability to secure its systems. In light of these developments, we urge the DBE to conduct an internal investigation and call on the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to intervene to ensure transparency and accountability,” the report quoted Makaneta as saying.
The DBE has yet to comment on the allegations.
