Cape Town – One out of three alleged house robbers reportedly died when a car they had stolen crashed, as they fled from police in Mpumalanga on Wednesday.
According to Times Live, the trio was armed when they stormed into a house at Xanthia Trust near Bushbuckridge at around 01:20.
They held a 33-year-old man hostage and demanded cash from him.
Discovering that he did not have any cash on him, they took his cellphone and ordered him to give them access to his bank’s app.
They then took his VW Polo and drove away.

News24 reported that after robbing the victim, the suspects went to rob a second house where they allegedly held a couple at gunpoint, saying that they were sent to kill the husband and rape the wife.
“However, the victims were not harmed, but [the] suspects are said to have robbed them of their personal items before they fled” using the VW Polo which they took from the first house, said the report.
The owner of the VW Polo alerted the police of the robbery.
In coordination with a car tracking company, the police managed to locate the car and a high-speed chase between the suspects and the police ensued.
Realising that they were cornered, the suspects began shooting at the police. In the process, the suspects lost control of the vehicle, thereby causing an accident.
One of them died, while the other two fled.
Police urged members of the public to come forth with information on the whereabouts of the suspects.
