Cape Town – An alleged robber died in a hospital after accidentally shooting himself during a crime spree in Mpumalanga.
The suspect and his accomplices were involved in a business robbery and burglaries of multiple homes.
During the incidents, they demanded money, stole a white VW Jetta, and took a safe that contained an illegal firearm.
Tragically, they also killed the owner of the vehicle after he managed to free himself during the robbery.
While attempting to reach for a wallet inside the stolen car, the deceased accidentally shot himself in the leg.
“Instead of his accomplices assisting him, they reportedly drove off, leaving him behind, bleeding profusely. The injured man was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries,” News24 quoted police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala as saying.
The injured suspect was taken to a hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
Police said community members pursued the escaping robbers who were driving a stolen VW Jetta. However, the robbers eventually abandoned the stolen car and continued their escape on foot, leaving behind a safe containing a pistol inside the car,” IOL reported.
“The police in Vosman are busy investigating this incident and request anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the other suspects to call the Vosman police station at 079 891 4822 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111,” said Mohlala.
