Cape Town — Tony Forbes, AKA’s father, does not believe that the mastermind behind his son’s killing, has been arrested, but remains optimistically cautious following the arrest of seven suspects.
Police made a stunning breakthrough in AKA’s murder case when they arrested six suspects believed to be the killers. Police minister, Bheki Cele, confirmed the arrests and said the suspects will appear in court on Tuesday.
“Six people have been arrested that will appear in court on Thursday” police minister Bheki Cele told a press conference in Durban.
Tony Forbes was speaking to the media following and said he and the family are still struggling to come to terms with his son’s death, SABC News reported.
The five suspects appeared in court for the first time since their arrest in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and the bail application has been postponed to Wednesday 6 March. The group faces charges of murder, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms among others, EWN reported.
Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, 30; Lindani Ndimande, 30; Eddie Myeza, 22; Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, 36; and Lindokuhle Ndimande, 29; face a total of 10 charges. Two of the accused were arrested in Eswatini and have not yet been extradited. The State said while the extradition process has started, there was no time frame as to when they will be South Africa, IOL reported.
When the court proceedings started, five of the seven suspects linked to the killing of rapper AKA and his friend Tibz appeared wearing face masks not wanting to be identified, but were ordered to remove them. State prosecutor advocate, Lawrence Gcaba, said the state needed a postponement for further investigations.
Among the people who attended the brief proceedings were AKA’s father Tony Forbes, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as well as Police Minister Bheki Cele.
