Cape Town – Minister of Police Bheki Cele says police are close to solving the Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes murder case.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of a ministerial imbizo in Johannesburg on Wednesday, he said several cellphones had been collected so far.

“We acknowledge that it is not with the speed the community and the nation would have loved to see us reacting but mark the space we are digging deep in this case,” Cele said.

According to News24, Cele said he received the latest update on the case around 10pm on Monday.
“It is a matter that we can’t lay to rest. Unfortunately, we can’t give you [a] blow-by-blow of what is happening, but the progress is absolutely there.
“Maybe things that I am not supposed to say, but one of them [we] can; we have collected a lot of cellphones we are working [on] and downloading… trying to piece and knit things together,” the report quoted him as saying.
Meawhile, a petition, “Justice for AKA Kiernan Forbes”, has been created on Change.org. It calls out KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and national commissioner Fannie Masemola, and demands answers regarding AKA’s murder. The petition has almost 10 000 signatures.
