Kwazulu-Natal – Amidst the increasingly widespread anxiety of South Africans towards incidents of dogs attacking humans, an eight-year-old boy who was attacked by his neighbour’s dog in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday afternoon would add to that anxiety.
The boy had been playing soccer with a friend on Chain Street in Coniston when his neighbour’s dog attacked him, confirmed Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
RUSA received a call for assistance, and upon the arrival of Reaction Unit officers, they earned that the boys were playing soccer on the road when the dog, a Staffordshire Terrier, charged at one of them after its owner opened the driveway gate.

“The boy fell when he was bitten on his right arm. Residents screamed for assistance and the canine retreated,” RUSA said on Facebook.
It said that the child was treated for his injuries on the scene before being transported to a medical facility by the dog’s owner.
In November, a 15-month-old toddler was mauled to death by a pit bull on Wednesday, November 23 at Gonubie Farm in East London, police confirmed in a statement.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, reports suggested that the boy was playing with the neighbour’s pit bull at the farm.
A passer-by walked past the proximity of the yard with a dog and was seen by the pit bull. It was further alleged that the pit bull attempted to escape the yard while barking at the passing dog.
