Cape Town — The Gauteng Health Department confirmed that the 74 pupils, allegedly hit with food poisoning, have been discharged from hospital.
In a statement, the Department said all the learners were treated for suspected food poisoning and were successfully discharged.
“The 74 female Grade 12 learners from Fochville Secondary School, Badirile Swcondary School and Wedela Technical School on a matric camp were evaluated and treated at Carletonville District Hospital and with one at a private facility,” Department spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba said.
The department confirmed that no other learners needed any hospitalisation and all of them have now returned home.

According to Newzroom Afrika, the parents of the pupils who were admitted to hospital were happy that their children were now safe.
Mabona said that the department does not know the cause of the sickness but said it will be taking food and blood samples to determine the cause.
The camp was conducted to help matric learners to be adequately prepared ahead of their final examinations, with Mabona saying the camp was for a good cause.
He explained further that the department will speak to everyone involved in this incident before providing more updates.
