Cape Town – A 61-year-old man was airlifted from Lion’s Head in Cape Town on Sunday after he suffered a medical emergency while hiking.
Paramedics said when they arrived on the scene at approximately 10:38, they found rescuers already attending to the man and assisting with treatment.
“He was in a serious condition. It is suspected that the man suffered heat stroke and started having seizures.
“Skymed’s emergency medical helicopter was activated to airlift the man to hospital,” ER24 said in a statement.

Prior to the incident, the SA Weather Service had warned that the Western Cape would experience extremely hot conditions over the weekend, saying temperatures could reach 40°C and above, The Citizen reported.
ER24 advised anyone “hiking or taking part in outdoor activities to ensure that they are well hydrated and rest often. Keep an eye out for weather alerts and severe temperatures. Rather avoid strenuous exercise during hot days”
