Cape Town – At least 120 learners from two schools in the Eastern Cape had to be rushed to local clinics, with one in critical condition, for alleged food poisoning.
The incident occurred on a Thursday, and more than 50 of the affected learners are now in different hospitals.
It is alleged that the learners consumed items purchased from informal traders.

“Clinical investigations are being conducted from both the district municipality, Chris Hani District Municipality, are working on the case. We can confirm that a 14-year-old girl is in a rather critical condition in Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” EWN quoted Eastern Cape Health’s spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo as saying.
This incident is part of a rising trend in such cases in the country, with at least five children already confirmed dead.
