Cape Town – Several employees were reportedly rushed to hospital after a generator exploded at a KFC in Kabega Park in Gqeberha.
According to Bester Emergency Medical Service, multiple emergency service providers attended the scene on Sunday.
Express reported that five injured employees were rushed to Mercantile Hospital for medical treatment.
Social media users who commented on the incident on the Port Elizabeth Traffic Updates Facebook page blamed load shedding, stating that generators were not supposed to be used as often as they were.
Others suggested the generator may have been faulty and urged management to ensure generators are in good working order.

Jean Reed wrote: “How many more need to explode before people realise they’re a problem? Not that there is much one can do with all the load shedding, but generators are not designed to be used constantly as is currently happening.”
“The other day I was there and it was load shedding half the staff was in that generator room and I saw it’s not safe as they where all trying to get that thing to work. So it’s been a faulty generator for a while. I hope the staff members where safe.” said Zipho Zenkosi Mapasa .
