Cape Town – A 19-year-old man is reportedly set to appear before the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday March 22 after he allegedly murdered his 3-year-old relative in Matiwaneskop.
The suspect had initially said that on March 10, the little girl ate some snacks and went to sleep before she started to vomit the following day and died.
“At that stage, no foul play was suspected and there were no visible injuries on the deceased’s body. An intensive investigation and medical examination revealed that the child had internal blood clots in her head and kidneys. It was established that the child was severely assaulted and sustained internal injuries,” The Witness quoted the police as saying.
It was at this point that the inquest docket was changed to murder.
Investigations led to the arrest of the 19-year-old man, IOL reported.
“The 19-year-old suspect was placed under arrest on a charge of murder,” police said, according to the report.
