Cape Town – A woman and three children reportedly died in a multiple shack fire incident last night at the Marathon Informal settlement in Germiston, Ekurhuleni.
Reports indicated that the woman aged 43 and the children aged nine, seven, and two were all burned beyond recognition.
“On search and rescue, we found the three bodies of the three siblings who were in the shack at the time of the fire aged between 9 and and 2 and one other body of a female adult found in another shack.

“So, the fire is extinguished as we speak. The actual cause of the fire is alleged to have been a paraffin stove which was left unattended,” SABC quoted Ekhuruleni Emergency Services Spokesperson, William Ntladi as saying on Monday.
Several families were also displaced after their shacks were completely destroyed by the blaze, EWN reported.
“Three fire stations responded to the scene that is Primrose, Bedfordview, and Albertina Sisulu within the City of Ekurhuleni. On arrival on the scene we counted about 16 shacks that were burning. We managed to extinguish the blaze,” said EMS spokesperson William Tladli, according to the report.
