Cape Town – The City of Cape Town has announced the schedule and road closures for the highly anticipated Tweede Nuwe Jaar Minstrel Parade, set to take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
The event, also known as the Cape Town Street Parade, celebrates Cape Town’s vibrant traditions and rich cultural heritage, drawing thousands of performers and spectators to the streets.
Tweede Nuwe Jaar Parade Details
Approximately 20,000 performers from 18 minstrel troupes will entertain the crowds with rhythmic music, including banjos, ghoema drums, trombones, and tubas.
The procession begins in District Six around midday and follows a historic route to Bo-Kaap, with colourful performances in front of the historic City Hall and along Darling Street, where thousands are expected to gather.

Road Closures:
To accommodate the parade, several streets in the CBD will be closed from 06:00 to 23:55 on January 4, 2025.
City’s Support for the Event
Smith emphasised the City’s dedication to supporting such cultural celebrations.
“This is always a special time for thousands of residents who get the opportunity to celebrate and honour long-standing traditions that form part of the fabric of this great city,” said safety and security Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith.
“The city of Cape Town is proud to collaborate with the Cape Malay Choir Board and the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association by providing financial and logistical support to ensure we continue to honour the traditions for many more years to come.”
