Despatch – A 19-year-old man is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder following the fatal stabbing of his mother’s boyfriend.
According to South African Police Service spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, it is alleged that the 25-year-old male victim and his girlfriend visited her son on Sunday, December 25 when an argument ensued between the couple at Moo Valley, Despatch.
The boyfriend reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, and her son stepped in to attempt to stop the conflict.
“It is further alleged that the 25-year-old man also assaulted his girlfriend with a golf club during the argument,” Swart said in a statement.

“The couple continued to argue and the son decided to step in an attempt to stop the fight. The 25-year-old man then allegedly picked up a stone and attempted to hit the 19-year-old son with it.
“The son then took out a knife and stabbed the 25-year-old man in the chest. The 25-year-old man then walked to his own house in Moo Valley where he collapsed and died. The name of the deceased will be released once formal identification is completed.”
The 19-year-old was detained on a charge of murder and is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, December 28.
Swart said that Investigations are ongoing.
