A South African-developed app is helping parents keep a closer eye on their children.
LocTransie tracks children’s whereabouts on their way to and from school, sending alerts via SMS as they pass several checkpoints throughout their trip, as reported by IT News Africa. Drivers can also notify parents of delays, route changes or emergencies as well.
Developed by Tshidi Morabi, MD of Ginini Consulting, LocTransie’s primary aim is to reduce the swapping of children between transport companies without a parent’s knowledge. ‘I struggled to find the right transport company, and then constantly worried when I was not kept in the loop. There had to be a better solution,’ she says.
The app also has a scholar transport price comparison guide according to neighbourhood and district.
Schools can also participate through a sign-in, sign-out system, says Morabi. ‘This was based on extensive discussions with schools who wanted to be involved and “tick off” when students arrive or exit their care.’
