Mauritius has started work on building a 2 MW solar PV farm in a bid to help the government achieve its target of 35% renewable energy by 2025.
Located close to the Tamarind Falls dam, the Henrietta solar PV farm will be operational by the end of November this year, according to a Construction Review Online report.
The project is part of a broader scheme to modernise the country’s energy sector and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, which will see the total number of solar PV farms in Mauritius reach 11 by next year.
The project also involves the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the 2 MW per grid-tie, ground-mounted solar PV farm, with all necessary accessories over a surface area of 20 000 m². Equipment includes 5 900 solar PV panels, inverters, ground-mounted structures, switch gears and transformers.
The farm will produce about 3 GWh of renewable energy annually, reducing Mauritius’ CO2 emissions by 3 000 tons.
