Citizens of Seychelles have the upper hand when it comes to easily accessing other countries. Arton Capital’s Passport Index – which ranks national passports by the effort it takes holders to enter other territories – shows that, in total, the East African island nation has visa-free access to 126 countries globally – making the Seychelles passport the most powerful on the continent.
As reported by How We Made It In Africa, Mauritius has the second-strongest passport with admittance to 118 countries, followed by South Africa with 90.
The index also identified Seychelles and Rwanda as the African countries whose passports strengthened the most compared to 2016 (each gained access to two extra countries). In the same period, however, Ghana’s passport lost access to four countries.
Despite moves to improve ease of access throughout Africa, currently just 13 of the continent’s 55 countries offer visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to all Africans.
