In the most recent addition to Ghana’s massive industrialisation programme, plans have been announced for the construction of a US$3 million food production factory in the Greater Accra region.
The Leefound Food Stuff Company’s planned factory forms part of the government’s One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative to establish at least one medium- to large-scale factory in each of the 254 districts in Ghana, Ventures Africa reports. To date, about 19 factories have been built.
The factory will produce tomato paste, as well as spices and other foodstuffs for the Ghanaian and sub-regional markets.
The government is collaborating with the factory’s management to ensure that raw materials are sourced locally. Ghanaian traders will also have the opportunity to join the marketing chain and sell the company’s products.
With construction expected to be completed by year-end, the factory will produce an estimated 300 shipping containers of foodstuffs for Ghanaian and sub-regional markets.
