Ethiopia is planning to build a US$50 million ‘coffee park’ in Addis Ababa in an effort to promote its coffee products globally.
Xinhua reports that the 30 ha park – which will be built with the help of the South Korean government over three years – will include a coffee museum and a market centre.
The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) has also announced plans to establish an umbrella coffee brand – ‘Ethiopian Coffee’ – aimed at enhancing the ‘international presence and image’ of Ethiopia’s major coffee varieties, such as Yirgacheffe, Harrar and Sidamo.
ECTA director-general Adugna Debella says the single brand may aid the country in international price negotiations, adding that it could be of ‘paramount importance for developing the coffee sector’.
