Cape Town – Luyanda Mboniswa, the man who murdered Marike de Klerk, the ex-wife of former apartheid president FW de Klerk, has been released on parole after serving 22 years in prison.
Mboniswa was welcomed by his family outside the correctional centre in Gqeberha.
He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003 for the murder of Marike, along with 15 years for robbery.
Marike was killed in 2001, stabbed and strangled in her flat in Cape Town.

Mboniswa, who had worked as a security guard at the complex, stole valuables during the crime.
The release followed a parole process, and Mboniswa will be under community corrections with specific parole conditions.
The parole is part of the rehabilitation programme to correct offender behaviour.
