Cape Town – Ocean View resident and mom of three, Tamaryn Williams, was recently crowned Mrs Western Cape at the Music and Performing Arts Academy in Cape Town.
Mrs Western Cape is part of the official provincial pageants held annually in every province of South Africa.
Married, divorced widowed women, or mothers, aged between 24 and 58 are allowed to compete.
According to the organisation’s description, the pageant seeks “real women” to enter and compete.
“We are not looking for a woman that is perfect or has the perfect life; we need real women to step up and speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. Real women are women who have been broken, who know about the hardship of life, but have made a decision to be significant anyway,” it read.
The Mrs Western Cape title has been hosted since 2009, along with all 9 provincial pageants.
The newly crowned Mrs Western Cape opened up about how she felt after she was announced as the winner.
According to False Bay Echo, Williams felt emotional enough to shed tears after hearing she was the victor.
“I was already crying behind [the] stage when they called my name. What I have taken from this experience is to always be humble, to make the best of every opportunity that comes your way and it is never too late to be the person you are meant to be, she said.
“When they announced the winners, I became emotional and it felt so unreal. I also worked so hard for this,” Williams said, as reported by The People’s Post.
“My father was a policeman for 20 years and then he became very sick and became medically boarded.
“I always wanted my father’s presence when I won. He was a policeman and was at work a lot when I grew up. For him to be there meant a lot to me.
“I couldn’t help but cry,” she added.

Williams is focused on helping people in her own community.
“The main thing I want to do is help people who are unemployed, whether it is helping them with their CVs or helping them prepare for an interview.
“This is a step to go further into the pageant industry and to make changes in my community, in the entire Western Cape and it’s not just about having a crown and a sash,” Williams said.
Charity Organisation, My Father’s House, celebrated Williams’ success and mentioned her dedication to volunteer work.
“Super proud of Tamaryn Williams being crowned Mrs Western Cape 2022. Tamaryn is working with a soup kitchen in Ocean View and has volunteered at My Father’s House .She is an absolute inspiration to many in the Far South. We wish Tamaryn everything of the very best in the Nationals,” the organisation said.
