Kenya has lifted a ban on direct flights to and from Somalia, reports say.
According to BBC, the development comes just a month after Kenya announced a suspension of air travel between the two countries.
Kenya’s ministry of foreign affairs said it hoped the move would lead to full normalisation of diplomatic ties.
The ministry said the change of heart was necessitated by mutual interests of the two countries.
“The government of Kenya has taken due consideration of intercessions made and has decided to re-open Kenya’s airspace to all flights originating from Somalia and emanating from Kenya to Somalia,” the Star quoted the ministry of foreign affairs as saying in a statement.
Meanwhile, Somalia welcomed Kenya’s decision to reopen its airspace.
Kenya banned all flights to and from Somalia in mid-May but gave no explanation for the move.
