Joburg – Rapper, Cassper Nyovest, took to social media on Wednesday, to share his ongoing struggles with rising electricity costs.
Additionally, he revealed just how much he pays to keep the lights on, in his Joburg mansion.
“Guys Does the price of electricity change ? Last week I bought R3000 electricity and it was 900 units. Today R3000 only gave me 750 units. Also what’s mad that is R3000 rand electricity lasts a week in my house , with the geysers off and everything. Life in JHB IS CRAZY,” he posted.

Until he made the switch to prepaid, the rapper detailed how he paid R18 000 a month for electricity.
“I have a full Solar too. So I don’t experience load shedding. Mara still , electricity in this country has become too expensive. 12 k a month on electricity is madness mann… it used to be 18k a month before I moved to prepaid. like this is scary. What’s gonna happen in 5 years?,” he said.

While some urged him to continue saving power, others shared his pain and voiced their complaints under his posts.
Here’s what they had to say:
“We are being ripped off. I can’t even use the heater in my apartment. Grateful it’s on the sunny side of the building.”
“Something needs to be done ‘cause it seems like @Eskom_SA is ripping us off!”
“Never in my dream did I think you’d complain about the price of electricity. Major economic indicator.”
“Prepaid seems to be worse than when city power bills you. Someone here also complains that he’s spending R5800 weekly on electricity when most appliances are off. Others are complaining for being billed R40K a month for electricity when they barely home Cost of living is scary.”
