Cape Town — The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said it will investigate the technical glitch that led to the results dashboard being shutdown for an extended period this morning.
The results dashboard is a live update of the election results as they are counted and tallied. This morning, the site went down due to a technical glitch, which meant that results operation centres were operating blindly. The commission confirmed it will be investigating the reasons behind the glitch, EWN reported.
The IEC said it will investigate the matter, and deputy CEO Mawethu Mosery assured voters that the backend was not affected, and that the integrity of results had not been compromised.

According to The Citizen, the IEC announced that it had finished counting the votes on Thursday afternoon, with the first results coming out of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela municipality in the Eastern Cape.
““The counting of ballots occurs at the voting station where the votes are cast. Party agents, independent candidate agents, and observers oversee the entire counting and results process and are present at all times.” the IEC said,
Despite the technical glitches experienced this morning, the IEC is still now capturing, auditing and quality-assuring the results. As of 59% of votes complete, the ANC has received 41.88% of votes, the DA was 2nd with 23.22%, while the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party was 3rd with 11.52%.
