Cape Town – A 12-year-boy and his aunt reportedly died after falling into a maize silo at their Groenvlei farm in Mpumalanga.
Reports said that the dreadful incident happened on Friday.
Both the aunt and her nephew, who was a pupil at Laerskool Standerton, were certified dead at the scene by paramedics.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Kerneels Rautenbach fell into the silo, which contained maize. Soon after that, his aunt, Jackie Rautenbach tried to pull him out when she also fell in, reported TimesLive.
“The woman’s husband, who was a few metres away, is said to have heard loud screams for help and rushed closer to the scene but it was sadly too late to save their lives. On the arrival of the paramedics the two were unfortunately certified dead,” the report quoted Mohlala as saying

On their Facebook page, Laerskool Standerton sent their condolences to the Rauntenbach family and hailed Jackie for her bravery.
