Cape Town – Chaos broke at a school rugby match after an assistant coach, parents and pupils allegedly attacked a teacher who was a referee for the match.
The incident reportedly occurred last Saturday at the Daniëlskuil High School in the Northern Cape.
Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said police were investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after a referee was allegedly assaulted by a group of spectators and no arrests had been made, reported News24.
The referee Christo Kemp from Danielskuil High School was refereeing a match between two under 15 teams, reports said.
On its Facebook page SupaRugby said that the Northern Cape education department had condemned the incident and immediately suspended all school home games until the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.
