Cape Town – Hundreds of unemployed youths marched to the Ford Motor Company’s headquarters and Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone to demand jobs ahead of Youth Day.
The march saw young people from Mamelodi, Nellmapius and Eersterust carrying their qualifications and CV outside Ford Motor Company on Tuesday.
Reports said that the march was orchestrated and led by Tshwane Bahlali Dudula Movement.
According to The Citizen, the movement called for the automotive companies to hire unemployed youth who had qualifications and skills from nearby communities instead of people from afar.

The movement accused the automotive companies of not contributing to the high unemployment rate in their neighboring communities despite operating in the area, the report said.
IOL reported that march organiser, Organiser, Khutso Smesh Semetjane denied connections with the Dudula Movement led by Nhlahla Lux but agreed to have the same interest, particularly on SA youth employment. He, however, said that they differed on the approach.
“We demand the immediate setting up of a collaboration desk that will include representatives from Ford South Africa, the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone representatives and some people from Mamelodi, Nellmapius and Eersterust as the stakeholders.
“We demand the immediate scrapping of the pure mathematics requirement on entry-level posts. The requirement is not scientific and it is used to unfortunately discriminate against potential job seekers,” the report quoted Semetjane as saying.
