Cape Town – Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known as ‘Black Coffee’, won his first Grammy on Sunday, during the 64th annual Grammy Awards ceremony held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
He won in the category Best Dance/Electronic Album for his Subconsciously studio album.
Black Coffee was accompanied by his eldest son Esona.

“I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal souls and help people go through whatever they’re going through in life,” said Black Coffee during his award receiving speech.

Black Coffee’s album came up tops, going against the likes of Sylvan Esso, Illenium, Major Lazer, Ten City, and Marshmello to scoop the award eNCA reported.
He already holds a BET award and he is the first-ever African DJ to win a Grammy.

On Sunday, Black Coffee took to Twitter to announce that he is now a “Grammy-winning artist”.
