Cape Town – South African former finance minister Tito Mboweni has sparked debate on social media after he shared a picture of a woman kneeling in front of a man with a bowl of water so he can wash his hands before eating a meal.
“Should we continue with this “cultural” approach? Does not look right!! I submit,” Mboweni captioned the picture.

The post sparked different opinions, with some social media users saying that the culture should be preserved whilst others took a more modern approach, saying things like that should be scrapped out in 2022.
Mboweni later came back to share yet another thought on the debate and said that people should be left to decide on their own if they want to practice their culture or not.
“Never be judgemental about people’s cultures. Let them decide for themselves. But hey Presto, nothing is stagnant except stagnation itself. Things change with the times! ‘Nothing is stable except stability itself’. Be your own judge!,” Mboweni wrote in a tweet.
