Cape Town – A law enforcement officer, who allegedly killed a homeless man early this year, is reportedly still employed by the City of Cape Town.
Reports indicated that Dumisani Joxo was shot in a crossfire when the 22-year-old officer had a scuffle with one man while he was attending to a fire complaint in Rondebosch on January 9.
“One of the people that started the fire had a physical altercation with the officer, and during the fight, the deceased was caught in the crossfire, and the bullet went through his mouth,” News24 quoted community leader Rhoode Gelderbloem as saying at the time.
The officer, Luvolwethu Kati, reportedly first appeared in court in January for the murder of Joxo and was released on a R1 000 bail, reports said.

According to The Citizen, Kati made his third court appearance at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where his bail was extended and the case postponed to July 29 as the state’s investigation was incomplete.
Six months after the murder of Joxo, Kati was still working as a law enforcement officer as the City reportedly handled the matter as per prescribed labour legislation and its policies, the report said.
Joxo’s friends, who recently held a memorial in his remembrance called for justice and wanted Kati held accountable, Daily Maverick reported.
“I really hope this case can just come to an end. The pain we are feeling still hurts,” the report quoted Joxo’s friend Christopher Caesar as saying.
