Cape Town – The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department is concerned by the rate at which schools are becoming “soft targets” for shootings following the death of a student-teacher who was shot in the head at a Newlands West Durban school.
The teacher was in a critical condition after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head at the Riverdene Secondary School on Tuesday morning.
KwaZulu-Natal education head, Muzi Mahlambi confirmed that the educator died from his wounds at the hospital on Tuesday evening, reported EWN.
He said the department was concerned about safety at schools as this was not the first time an educator was killed near or on the school premises, said the report.

“The Department of education in KwaZulu-Natal is worried about the rate at which our schools are becoming soft targets.” the report quoted Mahlambi.
He, however, hoped solutions would soon be found following a crime prevention summit hosted in the province recently.
