Cape Town – Dr Malinga has set tongues wagging after a video of him in a R5m McLaren went viral, fueling concerns about his “reckless financial decisions” shortly after receiving monetary donations from fans and industry colleagues.
The singer topped the Twitter trends over the weekend when he posted a video of himself in the expensive vehicle while playing his latest single Ngiyabonga Nkosi.
In response, Dr Malinga said the car was not his, reported TshisaLIVE.

“It’s not my car, it’s just a video. I never wrote that the car is mine. It’s my friend’s car, not my car. For now, I cannot afford such a car. Even if I had the money I wouldn’t buy that car now. That car is too small for me, I love big cars. Buying a McLaren for me is the last resort,
“I think the song is what misled them because I’m thanking God. They might have thought I was thanking God for the car,” the publication quoted Dr Malinga as saying.
The Hangover hit maker recently had his fans and celebrities come to his rescue after he broke down when he opened up about his financial woes during an interview on the Podcast and Chill.
The singer kept his fans updated on the monetary donations he was getting and thanked all those who contributed.
He assured fans that he has used the money wisely and had not bought a car since 2016, the report said.
“The money that they donated helped a lot, I paid R100,000 to Sars and now I am getting booked and getting the booking money … You don’t help people and expect them not to grow. Though some will say cars are not investment, sometimes it’s an investment in your happiness,” TshisaLIVE quoted him.
