Cape Town – South Africa has recorded a total of 3 713 252 covid-19 infections, with 989 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Sunday.
This increase represents a 5.9% positivity rate after 16 849 tests were conducted.
At least one covid-19 related death was reported, bringing the total fatalities to 99 966 since the discovery of the virus in the country.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 713 252 with 989 new cases reported. Today 01 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 966 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 599 563 with a recovery rate of 96.9%,” said the health department in a statement.

The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (37%), followed by Western Cape (29%), and Kwa-Zulu Natal (20%).
“6 849 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 989 new cases, which represents a 5.9% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 1 death, which did not occur in the past 24–48 hrs. Total fatalities are 99 966 to date,” National Institute For Communicable Diseases said.
