Cape Town – Retail group Cotton On sent South Africans into a frenzy when they revealed they are selling a basic enamel coffee mug for a whopping R199.
The mug has caused a stir on social media, with many comically pointing out that anyone purchasing this mug was getting “mugged” themselves.
Radio talkshow host Anele Mdoda was one of those outraged at Cotton On’s latest marketing campaign.
She simply said: “Cotton On… we need to talk. ANELE and The Club… tomorrow”

According to The South African, the same mug costs just R10.90 at West Pack and only R9.99 at Shoprite.
The products appeared to have later been removed from Cotton On’s website. The company has not yet released a statement in response to the outcry over the prices. Any update will be included once received, TimesLIVE reported.
The outrage at the price of the mugs had many people in shock. Many others replied to the initial tweet and took it as an opportunity to poke fun at Cotton On’s newest product.
