Cape Town — The African National Congress (ANC) officially announced its electoral candidates list ahead of the national and provincial elections for 2024.
The list included familiar names such as ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, deputy president, Paul Mashatile, National Chairperson, Gwede Mantashe, and Minister of Justice, Ronald Lamola.
ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, briefed the media as the ANC announced the names of candidates for the upcoming elections.
“The ANC Candidate Selection process aims to ensure that only the most qualified and deserving individuals are nominated for positions. We have implemented strict criteria to ensure the integrity and credibility of our candidates.” Mbalula said.

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa, said the party has nothing to hide when it comes to their candidate lists for the upcoming elections.
The ANC expressed its concern after the IEC mistakenly leaked its candidate lists on Friday, prompting an internal investigation into the matter. It was revealed that MK part candidate lists were also leaked.
In response to the leaks, Mbalula, wrote a letter to the IEC requesting it to investigate the circumstances that led to the leak. Ramaphosa said he welcomed the investigation, SABC News reported.
“The ANC list is going to be published officially by the IEC. There’s nothing to hide with that list. We’ve got our leaders who are going to be put forward to represent the country. There’s nothing that we are ashamed of, nothing we are hiding,” Ramaphosa said.
Ramaphosa said the party had been informed about how the list could’ve been leaked. He said this was unfortunate because it risked undermining the work of the Electoral Commission, however, they are still confident in the IEC’s processes as elections approach, EWN said.
“Somehow, somebody at the IEC leaked the list, before they could examine it and before they could invoke their own processes to have the lists publicly available.”
“We have been in discussion with them [IEC]. They have informed us that it was just a glitch. It is not representative of the IEC system.”
