Cape Town – Limpopo police reportedly arrested four people last week after angry community members allegedly killed four people and burnt their bodies in Majeje village Limpopo.
Reports said the victims were murdered after a business robbery at a local spaza shop.
The owner of the small business Asanap Aneso, 25, had been shot dead, before community members allegedly pounced on the four.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the four suspects allegedly gun-pointed Aneso and demanded money before one of them shot and killed him.
“One of the suspects then shot him dead and all three fled the scene after taking the money. Community members chased the suspects and cornered and stoned them. Thereafter they burnt their bodies,” TimesLive quoted Brigadier Mojapelo as saying.
The fourth suspect, who was identified as Themba Makhubele, was also stoned to death and his body was subsequently torched after he pointed a gun at the mob, reported News24.
Following the incident, a case of business robbery and five counts of murder was opened by police.
The four suspects aged between 18 ad 38 were reportedly arrested on Saturday morning.
“Soon after the incident, the provincial commissioner established a team to track down the killers. The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, 11 June 2022. More arrests are expected,” IOL quoted Brigadier Mojapelo as saying.
Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the police-tasked team for the arrests, the report said.
