Cape Town – Police have reportedly launched an investigation after the body of an elderly woman was found floating at Ramsgate Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Monday.
According to IOL, the body was spotted by members of the public walking on the beach.
“The bystanders jumped into the water and retrieved the body of an elderly female,” the report quoted Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst as saying.
When paramedics arrived and assessed the woman, they declared her dead on the scene,” The South African reported.
“Circumstances leading up to the woman found floating in the water is not known, however the deceased was handed over to the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit for further investigation,” Herbst said, according to the report.
The incident occurred just a few weeks after the bodies of a man and woman were reportedly found bound with gunshot wounds at Strandfontein beach in Cape Town.
Reports said both victims, covered with white sheets, were declared dead at the scene.
“Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies. The victims were declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspects who fled the scene are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is unknown,” EWN quoted police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi as saying.
