Cape Town – Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has demanded the police ministry as a condition for his party joining the ANC’s Government of National Unity (GNU).
In an interview with eNCA, McKenzie emphasised his qualifications to tackle crime, citing his background and commitment to addressing issues like mafias and infrastructure sabotage.
“None of the other parties are equipped to deal with mafias and murders. South Africa needs me at this time. I will deal with mafias, those who are sabotaging infrastructure to cause load shedding, and gangsters.
“I am equipped because of my past life, my future life, and my current life to deal with them.”
The police ministry position is currently vacant following former minister Bheki Cele’s exclusion from the parliamentary list.
Cele has accepted his exclusion, acknowledging that “there is an end to everything”.

“When I came out of my mother’s womb, I was never a minister… when I grew up, I never thought I would be a minister one day…. what’s wrong with going back as Bheki Cele and be an ordinary South African?… Once there is a start, there is an end,” Cele told eNCA.
