Cape Town – Keketso Mpitso, known for his portrayal of the volatile Tlali in Showmax’s gripping series, Outlaws, has undeniably become one of the breakout stars of the show.
As the 40-episode saga reached its tense finale on Wednesday, Mpitso’s performance left an indelible mark on viewers, showcasing his ability to bring a complex character like Tlali to life.
Mpitso’s depiction of Tlali, a hot-headed Sotho man with a penchant for cattle-raiding, has been nothing short of captivating.
Tlali is portrayed as an unpredictable troublemaker who operates on his own terms, always ready for conflict – a stark contrast to the calm and introverted nature of the actor himself. In an interview with The Africa, Mpitso elaborated on the disparities between himself and Tlali, highlighting the character’s impulsive and ambitious traits.
In discussing Tlali’s mindset, Mpitso shed light on the character’s single-minded focus and unwavering determination. Tlali, according to Mpitso, is a person who acts decisively, pursuing his goals with relentless passion. The actor marvels at the character’s ability to remain impervious to persuasion once his mind is made up, a quality that has added depth to Tlali.
Mpitso expressed described working alongside seasoned actors such as Mmabatho Mogomotsi and Siyabonga Shibe as a dream come true. Reflecting on their legendary status, particularly from his childhood memories of watching Mogomotsi in Yizo Yizo and Shibe in Gazlam, Mpitso expressed gratitude for the honour and opportunity to collaborate with these acting legends. The experience had been nothing short of amazing, he said.
As the curtains close on Outlaws, Mpitso’s journey as Tlali will undoubtedly be remembered as a transformative and impactful chapter in his acting career.
