Cape Town – South African activist and former Operation Dudula movement leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini has made his stance on the planned national shutdown by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema very clear, labelling the party members as “anarchists”.
EFF announced its plans for a national shutdown at the end of January this year to protest the ongoing load shedding and call for President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down.
Speaking during a press briefing, Malema said the national shutdown on March 20 would call for an immediate end to load shedding that was “crippling the economy and returning this country to the dark ages”.
He said the protest would bring the country’s economy to a standstill, adding that the event would make the Zuma Must Fall protest look like “Micky Mouse”.
“The national shutdown means that there will be no school, no university, factories and no business will be operating on that day,” Malema said.

But according to TimesLIVE, Dlamini called on his supporters to help prevent the EFF from “collapsing” the country’s economy.
“On March 20 those who are sane, I want you to go out and protect the malls and shops. Take formation as we always do in our townships and suburbs. We are not going to let these anarchists collapse our economy,” Lux was quoted as saying.
“He is trying to piggyback on the fact that most South Africans would rather take leave on Monday so they have an extended long weekend. He is trying to take that energy and make it his own. It will never work.
“If he was a real leader of society, Julius could have chosen any day free of anything and show us the power he claims to have,” he said.
