Cape Town – Deputy President Paul Mashatile has set tongues wagging after an exchange of messages – purportedly between Mashatile and an ex-girlfriend – started circulating on social media.
Mashatile was announced as the deputy president during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Cabinet reshuffle a week ago.
Although it is unclear whether the messages are definitely between the deputy president and his ex, the woman accused the text recipient of lying and trying to extort them.
“Why are you lying about names while I’ve tried so much to protect you. You’ll curse the you allowed your friends to control …
“People are calling me that you’ve wrote an article about me trying to extort money from after breaking up.

“Well I’ve invited them tonight to clarify the matter with facts and evidence,” read one of the texts.
According to TimesLIVE, criminal charges have been laid against the woman and she was being investigated for allegedly threatening Mashatile.
Meanwhile, City Press reported that Mashatile sent a delegation to fiancée Humile Mjongile’s family home in Ekurhuleni last weekend to pay lobola.
The report said Mashatile’s spokesperson, Keith Khoza, confirmed the lobola negotiations and added that there was a traditional wedding celebration over two days.
Mashatile and Mjongile would have a wedding with guests later this year, the report said.
