Cape Town – A Pakistan national, who reportedly dismembered his girlfriend and disposed of her body parts at the Lydenburg Mountain, has been sentenced to life.
The Polokwane High Court sentenced, Ashan Fraz Cheema, 33, to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, two years for theft and five years for defeating the ends of justice.
Cheema reportedly murdered his girlfriend, Mohlale Precious Magabane, who was a schoolteacher, in December 2018.
Magabane and Cheema reportedly had an argument at the deceased’s flat where Cheema assaulted and killed her with a knife, reported TimesLive.
The report said Cheema then dismembered the body and placed the body parts in refuse bags before discarding them at different locations.
He then buried the deceased’s head and arms in a shallow grave, the report said.
New24 reported that state witness and Cheema’s friend, Raza Ali told the court that Cheema told him of the trouble he was having with his girlfriend.
He told the court that on December 23, 2018, the accused confessed he had killed his girlfriend and disposed of her body parts at Lydenburg Mountain, along the R37.
Cheema reportedly asked Ali to help him bury Magabane’s head and hands at Mashifane Park sports ground.
During the sentencing, Judge President Ephraim Mkgoba said he took into account the seriousness of the offense which fell under gender-based-violence and the interest of society, the report said.
