Cape Town – Limpopo provincial commissioner Lieutenant General, Thembi Hadebe has reportedly ordered an internal probe into the immediate release on bail of a suspect that killed his girlfriend shortly after his release.
The 47-year-old was allegedly arrested after he threatened to shoot his 40-year-old girlfriend, Mmapula Maria Letsoalo.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Matome Shadrack Matlakla was arrested on Sunday night, reported New24.
“The pair apparently got into a heated argument, and the man thereafter threatened to shoot the woman with his firearm. The suspect was arrested and charged on Sunday but was released on bail hours later,” the report quoted Mojapelo as saying.
Upon his release, Matlakala reportedly went to Letsoalo’s home in Ga-Kgole village where he reportedly shot and killed her before driving off.
Reports said Matlakala then killed himself at his home shortly after.
“He was later found dead with a gunshot wound at his home in the next village of Ga-Makanye. The firearm used in the commission of the crime was found next to his lifeless body,” Mojapelo said, according to TimesLives.
Lieutenant General Hadebe ordered an internal probe into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s immediate release on bail by the prosecutor, the report said.
Police are also investigating a case of murder and an inquest.
